In today's dog sport community, it seems the Labrador Retriever breed is very divided between
Conformation/Bench and Field styles.  With extremes on both sides ranging from large-boned, short-muzzled,
heavy, open-coated individuals to narrow-headed, light-boned, snipey-muzzled, thin-coated individuals, complicated
by breeders on both sides who refuse to open their minds, a Dual Champion is a near impossibility.  Unfortunately,
those dogs who can successfully compete in even both upper level Hunt Test and Conformation venues are also
becoming rare.  This is very sad situation...

Although we are only a small hobby kennel, we are dedicated to breeding well-rounded Labrador Retrievers.
Labradors that conform to the standard and yet excel in performance events are our goal. We are extremely picky
about the type of Labrador that becomes a part of our breeding program.  We have passed over our share of very
nice litters- litters whose parents and bloodlines were decorated with CHs, FCs, AFCs, NFCs, etc.- all to find that
moderate style that conforms to the standard as it was intended.  You will find no long, open coats in our breeding
program, nor will you find snipey muzzles and narrow heads.  Our ultimate dream would be to produce a Labrador
that can become the Dual Champion the breed so desperately needs- whether produced directly or indirectly
through our lines.  Realistically, however, we believe in dogs that can prove their temperament as well as their
stamina and soundness with titles from a variety of events ranging from Conformation to Obedience/Rally to
Agility to Field.

Both Steve and I have been and are actively involved in Hunt Tests and Field Trials, although we are also working
on showing in Conformation to prove our dedication to dogs that meet the best intentions of the breed standard.
To prove our dogs' temperaments are what they should be, we are also competing in Obedience and/or Rally and
our dogs may hold CGC certificates as well.  We have been active members of the North Dakota Retriever Club
since May 2006 and look forward to many years of continued membership in such a great community.  I currently
serve as the club's Webmaster.  Our membership for the Fargo-Moorhead Kennel Club was just accepted in
January (2008).  That was very exciting for us and we look forward to many years of active membership in that
wonderful community as well.

No one should hesitate to contact us for information about anything Labrador.  We may not know everything there
is to know about the breed (something we will never claim), but we are happy to help.  We also absolutely don't
mind the opportunity to "gab Lab" (as another breeder so appropriately calls it)!

We plan to breed our very first litter in 2009.  We are currently researching compatible dogs for our foundation
bitch- who is showing great promise!  "Blue" is more than we could have ever hoped for and we hope to find a
suitable mate who can accentuate her good qualities.  She is a great testament to the years of hard work and
dedication of her breeder, Gene Christensen of Bel Air Kennels, and we are striving to improve upon the solid
foundation he has laid.
